There is one question I get asked all the time:

How do you have the time to run a business, travel, do the things you love and be so deep into yoga?

I promise that I don’t have some magic way to add more hours to the day – or some secret formula that lets me have boundless energy well into the wee hours of the morning. In fact, it’s quite the opposite since I focus on making getting a good night’s rest one of my top priorities. The simple answer is that there is no simple answer. Being able to be productive and reach for my dreams each day all comes down to one thing: Habits. I want to share with you how creating good habits and having discipline is so important when it comes to leading a full, amazing life. In fact, I would dare say that anyone who wants to really get the full benefits of a yoga lifestyle should definitely try to build their life around some healthy habits that will help you carry what you do on the mat into everyday life. For instance, getting in the habit of going to bed at a reasonable time each night will help you have the energy to have a really amazing yoga session in the morning before you start your day. Even if it is a sacrifice, shutting of the lights and getting some shut eye is your way of telling yourself that your passion and commitment to yourself – and nourishing yourself via yoga – means that you are worth the effort.

It really wouldn’t be possible for me to run an international apparel company, stay in contact with ambassadors and contacts from around the world, and constantly learn and innovate if I didn’t have habits that help me maximize every minute of my day. Now, the habits that work for me won’t necessarily work for everyone. My habits include getting up in the morning and dressing in a great yoga outfit that makes me feel powerful and beautiful and taking time to be thankful before my day begins. I take the time to plan out healthy, balanced meals that fuel my body. As many of you know, I travel quite a bit. I do my best to maintain the same schedule that I follow at home when I’m out on the road doing Balini business or traveling with my husband. Even though it can be hard to get up when the alarm goes off before sunrise when I’m in a hotel room in an unfamiliar place, I don’t consider a travel day a day off. Staying organized is also key. I have found that spending times searching for my car keys or sunglasses can actually suck up so many hours of my life when you add up all that wasted time at the end of the week. For that reason, I keep my home very organized and use “stations” so that I can put everything where I know I will find it, without a lot of detective work! Adding good habits to your day can be like adding extra hours – you will simply get more done and live more life in 24 hours that you ever did before.

What areas of your life are being held back because you don’t have the right habits? Be honest with yourself, and then make a small change every day to get you where you want to be. You will be amazed how much magic you can work in just a few hours when you have habits that allow you to actually spend more time to focus on what feeds you.
